Kelly Jean Killoren Bensimon is our newest housewife on “The Real Housewives of NYC” reality show. She was born in 1968 and raised in Rockford, Illinois, began modeling at age 15, graduated from Columbia University with an English major, was the 3rd wife of French fashion photographer Gilles Bensimon, who was formerly the International Creative Director of ELLE magazine, had 2 daughters with Bensimon and divorced him in July 2007. Kelly currently lives in East Hampton and New York. She is the mother of 2 daughters, a 41 year old former model, an equestrian, an author, an editor and designer with a line of costume jewelry and a collaboration of sweaters that were sold in major department stores.
Kelly Killoren Bensimon is the former editor of ELLE Accessories, an ambassador for Wool Corp., and is also the face of Saks Fifth Avenue’s “Wear” Campaign for spring 2009. Kelly also has a reality show on Plum TV called: ”Behind The Hedges” and is a columnist for the ”New York Post Page Six Magazine: The Socializer”, and has published 3 books: ”The Bikini Book”, “American Style” and “In The Spirit of the Hamptons”.
When Kelly Killoren Bensimon arrived on the “The Real Housewives of NYC” reality show; we were expecting her to bring an extra cloud of sophistication to the show, but she soon demonstrated that she was not confident in her own skin, nor was Kelly very convincing to the other cast members. It is easy to become bored with Kelly, because Kelly brings nothing to the table in her conversations with others as we have previously seen. She has created some kind of image in her head that she is a very important person and very well known
Much of Kelly’s impressive qualifications does not match her actions and personal character presented on the reality show. Kelly did not come across as being very up to date on any conversation topic, and seems unconcerned about life outside of her own bubble, tends to hurriedly leave a room after a function, seemingly to avoid conversation, radiates an aura of falseness, acts and speaks like a high school teenager in search of her lost youth, and dresses too wanton for the other cast members taste. Also Kelly Killoren Bensimon jealous obsession with Bethenny Frankel shows a lack of class, confidence, self-esteem and experience in her personal image as a socialite. If Kelly has meticulously built a name and image for herself since she was 15 years old, then why should she be bothered by Bethenny Frankel’s confidence, unpretentious manner, direct attitude, ambition, caring nature, tongue-lashing, personal sense of style, heterosexual, humorous, attractive, and creative natural food chef image.
Kelly Killoren Bensimon was arrested on March 5′ 2009 on a misdemeanor assault charge for hitting with closed fist, 30 year old Nicholas Stefanov, her current boyfriend at the time. The case will run until June 9′ 2009. Kelly Killoren Bensimon says she regrets signing on to the reality show and close associates feel she is socially ruined. Kelly says she is the luckiest person and is thankful for what she has, but can’t seem to stop the “green eyed monster” from coming out, when it becomes apparent that her painstakingly built up image still is not producing her highest expectations.

I get the impression that the “impressive qualifications” are somewhat inflated. She got on the masthead of Elle Accessories through her husband (much to Nina Garcia’s annoyance), her Columbia degree is from night school and is not from the more competitive Ivy League part of the institition, her books are merely photo books, and her journalism was mostly at Page 6 magazine which has since folded (as did Elle Accessories) and was only a 3 or 4 times a year.
Her inflated sense of self-worth I think caused her to fudge the facts was readily on display during the Real Housewives.
